Dimitar Shoumarov
Deputy CEO, Chief Financial Officer and Member of the Management Board
Dimitar Shumarov graduated from the University of National and World Economy with a master’s degree in “Socio-Economic Planning,” where he also served as a lecturer in the Department of Marketing and Strategic Planning.
Before entering the banking sector, he worked and specialized in the “Macroeconomic Projects and Development” division of the State Planning Committee, the State Planning Commission, and the Ministry of Economy and Planning. He participated in numerous projects and in the development of methodologies for various balance sheet ratios and indicators at the macroeconomic level. From 1990 to 1992, he worked in the “Budget Policy” department of the Ministry of Finance, where he participated in the development of the conceptual macroeconomic framework for constructing the consolidated state budget.
He began his career in the banking sector in 1992 at BSI “Mineralbank” as an expert and later served as deputy director of the “Economic Research and Financial Policy” department. From 1994 to 1995, he served as Director of “Economic Analysis and Forecasting” at the Banking Consolidation Company and, as its representative, was successively a member of the Board of Directors of “Biochem Commercial Bank” and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of “Sofia Bank.” In 1995, he was elected to the Management Board and appointed Executive Director of Balkanbank.
From late 1996, he worked at United Bulgarian Bank for 16 years as the bank’s Chief Financial Officer. There, he established the bank’s comprehensive financial management system, as well as the management and coordination of the business planning and budgeting process, project management, and a number of other banking functions and processes.
In July 2012, Dimitar Shumarov joined the Postbank team as CEO, CFO, and a member of the financial institution’s Board of Directors. Under his leadership, Postbank acquired and integrated the operations of two banks (Alfa Bank—Bulgaria Branch and Piraeus Bank Bulgaria) in record time, marking another step in solidifying its position as a systemically important bank for the market and expanding its customer base. Dimitar Shumarov actively participates in projects related to the digitization of the banking sector in Bulgaria.
He is the recipient of the “CFO of the Year” award from EY and Forbes magazine, as well as the “Burov” Prize from the Atanas Burov Foundation for banking management. In 2021, Dimitar Shumarov was honored with the “Banker of the Year” award. He received the award for the consistent and sustained momentum in Postbank’s development over the years, as well as for the bank’s social commitment. In 2023, Dimitar Shumarov was once again honored with the “Banker of the Year” award. He received it for achieving a high level of resilience in a complex macroeconomic environment.
