Angel Mateev
Executive Director Retail Banking and member of the Management Board
Angel Mateev is the Executive Director in charge of “Retail Banking.” He began his professional career as a “Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises” credit specialist at Eurobank, and subsequently rose through the ranks to become a branch manager and regional manager at Procredit Bank. Mr. Mateev joined Postbank in 2004 as Small Business Development Manager and was promoted to Head of the Small Business Banking Division. His successful career progression continued with his appointment as Deputy Head of the “Retail Banking” Sector and General Manager of the “Retail Banking” Sector. Since June 2024, Mr. Mateev has served as Executive Director of Retail Banking and a member of the Management Board of Postbank.
Mr. Mateev holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Macroeconomics from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” He successfully completed INSEAD’s executive program on “Digital Transformation and Innovation” in San Francisco, USA.
Angel Mateev is an experienced professional with over 25 years of experience in the banking sector. His career development and managerial roles have been entirely focused on retail banking, with an emphasis on strategic development, innovation, and market growth. He possesses in-depth knowledge and experience in commercial mergers and acquisitions, as well as the subsequent management of acquired entities. He played a key role in the acquisition and integration of three banks (Alfa Bank – Bulgaria Branch, Piraeus Bank Bulgaria, and BNP Paribas Personal Finance – Bulgaria), ensuring a smooth transition during the post-merger period and effective business management.
Under the leadership of Mr. Angel Mateev, Postbank’s “Retail Banking” division has been honored for its achievements with a number of prestigious awards and recognitions, including “Best Retail Bank” in Bulgaria (four consecutive years—2019–2022) from the renowned World Finance Magazine, Best Digital Consumer Bank (2021) by World Finance Magazine, and the Award for Significance and Customer Focus in Retail Banking (2019), presented by Europe Awards.
